KAMMERCHOR MANILA is Top Winner First Da Vinci Choral Competition; Regis is Best Male Soloist

Kammerchor Manila is proclaimed Grand Prix winner at the 1st Leonardo da Vinci International Choral Festival in Florence, Italy on Friday, July 14.

The choir bested 11 others from Slovenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Australia, among other countries in Asia and Europe.

Kammerchor Manila also garnered four Gold Diploma for winning categories in Mixed Choir; Modern and Contemporary Music; Popular, Folk, Gospel, Barbershop, Jazz, Modern Ensembles and second place in Sacred Music Category.

Kammerchor Manila is the audience choice for a Special Prize and tenor Rey John Regis is Best Male Soloist for the song “Let it Be”.

Among the songs Kammerchor performed were “Kaisa-Isa Niyan” by Nilo Alcala and “Her Sacred Spirit Soars” by Eric Whitacre.

As Grand Prix Winner, Kammerchor Manila received a trophy replica painting of Leonardo da Vinci’s “La Battaglia di Anghiari” and cash prize.

Prior to Da Vinci competition in Florence, Kammerchor Manila competed during the 8th Musica Eterna Roma in Rome, Italy last July 5-9, 2017 where they become finalist for the Grand Prix Round, and won first in the Mixed Choir Category. They also won Gold Diplomas in Mixed Choirs, Gospel and Spiritual, and Musica Sacra Categories.

Under the musical direction of Anthony Go Villanueva, Kammerchor Manila is a church based choir at the Hearts of Jesus and Mary parish in West Triangle, Quezon City. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary in a concert dubbed, “Argentum” for excellence in music and service to God. KM is named 2016 Ani ng Dangal awardee by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for bringing home honor to the country by winning the top prize at the 42nd Festival of Songs in Olomouc, Czech Republic in 2014.

After Florence, they will compete at the 63rd Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonica in Torrevieja, Spain on July 17 – 23, 2017.
